Antietam

The Bloodiest Day in American History

Also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg, this Civil War battle occurred on September 17, 1862 outside Sharpsburg, MD.  Since childhood my father would take me to Civil War battlefields.  This, among other things, sparked a curiosity and interest in military history.  Due to COVID, I was unable to travel out of the country this year and instead decided to visit some places of historical significance and interest.  This let me to Antietam.  On a beautiful and warm October day I visited the battlefield known as a bloody and devastating day in the American Civil War.  The beautiful scenery disguises the horrors that took place on this now hollowed ground.  I loved learning the history while doing photography.  I tried to impart the feeling I had while on the battlefield and even edit some of the images as though they were aged and from the period.
